JESUS CHRIST IS OUR LAWGIVER

We should not lose sight of the fact that every practice in our daily lives must be or is backed by some AUTHORITY (law or legislation). So the legality of this subject matter in hand is that we all know that it was God Who instituted or established marriage and even promulgated its laws. But to be precise, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that Jesus Christ is the one Who promulgated the law for our marriages before he even came to this earth to minister to us. As such I can say without fear that Jesus Christ is our Lawgiver. Just read the following three passages to understand this point also.

“And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” 1COR. 10:4

“There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?” JAMES 4:12

“For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.” ISAI. 33:22

Please let us take these verses step by step to know why I asserted above that Jesus Christ is our lawgiver. From the prophet Isaiah it is crystal clear that THE LORD is our lawgiver. So ask yourself who that Lord is. Honestly it is the Lord Jesus Christ whose birth this same Prophet Isaiah predicted in ISAI.9:6,7; 7:14. This is why Apostle James boldly declared that there is only one lawgiver who is in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. Do you doubt this? Well just consider James’ epistle again and notice that our lawgiver is also our judge and savior. Now who is this person at all? Do these titles not pertain to our Lord Jesus Christ? Yes they do.

Again Apostle Paul’s statement in his letter to the Corinthians makes it plain that the Power or Deity that followed and protected the Israelites in the wilderness and worked many miracles was nobody but Our Lord Jesus Christ. This shows that it was during that time that He gave us all His laws, thus making Him our LAWGIVER.

Furthermore, I want to emphatically point it out to you that in this New Testament also, God the Father declared that Jesus Christ is the only one we should listen to. That means Christ has the final say in matters relating to our salvation. This declaration from God the Father happened during the transfiguration and the statement goes like this ‘HEAR YE HIM’.

“While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” MATT. 17:5

You see? So what else are you now waiting to hear again before you understand that Jesus has the final say and that His teachings concerning adultery should be strictly obeyed or adhered to?

Even the purpose of Christ manifestation to this world as is predicted in ISAI 42:21 summarizes it all that, Christ should use His position to magnify or modify the law by correcting any anomaly in Christian practices. Read it:

“The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.” ISAI. 42:21

This quotation just read also explains why Christ made many authoritative statements thus, “BUT I SAY UNTO”, whenever He was about to make some corrections in the old scriptures.
